Colors of the Cholla

Dateline: 5 May 2015

With the last bit of cooler weather (and a bit of rain on Mt Lemmon) it seemed an opportunity for one last hike in Saguaro East. We set out for Bridal Wreath Falls, just off the Douglas Spring Trail. The early morning clouds and the occasional breeze kept the four of us from getting too hot. The saguaro are just starting to flower, the palo verde were still showing some yellow and the chollas were amazing – there was even a teddy-bear cholla with a flower! Overall there were all sorts of butterflies, lizards, birds and a squirrel or two. Despite the recent bit of rain, there was not much water in evidence at the falls. Still, a memory to savor as the summer heat builds.
